FOR ROYAL MER AND ITS WORKSHOP, TRADITIONAL KNOW- HOW IS AN ESSENTIAL CONCEPT. HOWEVER, THE HOUSE DOES NOT HESITATE TO CHALLENGE ITS ACHIEVEMENTS AND ITS INDUSTRIAL TOOLS TO ALLOW THIS HERITAGE TO LIVE WITH THE TIMES.
Regularly, designers and artists with a unique universe are invited to revisit our character knit.
This season, Royal Mer entrusted this delicate reinterpretation to Japanese designer Masato Koyama , who imagined two pieces emblematic of the French seaside spirit.
This is not a first for this enthusiast of vintage pieces who has already worked on several capsules for Royal Mer, until now reserved for the Japanese market.
A graduate of the Kyoto University of Art and Design and the Higher School of Men's Fashion in Tokyo, Masato Koyama works as artistic director for prestigious luxury brands and develops his creative universe via his own label HEUGN, after having founded IDEAS in 2018, the brand with which he partners with Royal Mer.
Masato KOYAMA likes to delve into Royal Mer archive samples to draw out the essence of this French knitwear imbued with culture and heritage. His discussions with our artisan knitters allow us to create nautical sweaters that harmoniously combine aesthetic heritage, refined vocabulary and contemporary standards.
For this summer, the collaboration continues to be nourished by this very enriching cultural duality: Somewhere between craftsmanship and timeless sophistication, the Hector and Pénélope sweaters wonderfully combine wheat stitch and crepe cotton on deliberately ample, softened, and graphic volumes.
An emblematic capsule made in France, which cultivates the elegance of the “seaside” style and perpetuates skills that have become rare in terms of manufacturing.
