Our portraits: Mathieu Plot
Discover the story of Mathieu Plot, co-founder of Pacific Planet , his atypical journey, his inspirations and his commitment to the environment. Dive into the challenges and achievements of this company which raises awareness of biodiversity through fun games and innovative initiatives.
Can you tell us about your background before co-founding Pacific Planet? What led you to environmental commitment?
I have a background that is often described as atypical, where I studied mechanics then studies in management and commerce. It seemed obvious to me to understand with my hands how a product works before being able to talk about it and possibly market it.
I learned in sometimes radically opposed environments, in technology and in human and commercial relations.
I was able to work in Mexico or Germany in particular and it was in these two countries that I observed myself taking a socio-ecological turn, because I was initially angry to observe the way in which large companies were putting under pressure from their employees then little by little, I developed a strong sensitivity for nature.
What was the initial spark for the creation of Pacific Planet, how was the founding team formed?
The team composed of Hélène Leduc, Christofer Jauneau and I were formed after a meeting in the associative environment, we were volunteers and working together on a mission made us want to start together.
After 4 years of volunteering within the Hebdo Ecolo association (ecological weekly), I am deeply convinced that volunteering is an effective way to meet new people, test our appetite, learn and secure professional opportunities.

What are the main objectives of Pacific Planet and how do you plan to achieve these objectives through your actions?
There are two major phenomena that are structuring our lives, climate change and the collapse of biodiversity.
It is in biodiversity that we find refuge, and Pacific Planet wishes to be a player we can count on to better understand how it works, what place it has in our lives and how to preserve it collectively.
To achieve these objectives, we create and run fun and cooperative games to better understand what surrounds us: the “forest rally”, our most successful game, or the “marine biodiversity wall”, two fun workshops. in teams.
Today, it is mainly by going into businesses, communities and higher education institutions that we have the most impact.
“The wall of marine biodiversity”: a fun workshop to understand the impact of humans on the marine world.
What were the biggest challenges you faced with your team, and what achievements are you most proud of?
One of the greatest prides is having imagined and made everything ourselves. All our games are handcrafted, mainly in wood or paper and they are very successful.
None of us have worked in a similar company, we created everything from a blank page with our beliefs, our passions and a lot of work.
Our second source of pride is that customers come back every year for their seminars or one-off events on different biodiversity themes.

Your commitment to biodiversity is obvious. How do you perceive the Adrian sweater initiative guaranteed for life by Royal Mer in terms of sustainability and environmental impact?
I adore. For me, it is a cultural and industrial revolution. It allows us to ask ourselves the question, “What if I wore a sweater all my life?” At a time when fast fashion is predominant and creates many social and environmental problems, this sweater offers a healthy alternative and, what's more, produced in France.
I believe that in our era of transition, many changes are cultural and Royal Mer contributes to this by innovating with this garment.
What are the future plans for your company?
I have just learned that we will be able to begin a huge project, one of a lifetime.
Create a biodiversity reserve of 5 hectares (50,000 m²) dedicated to research, preservation and education.
It will be born in 2024, between the country of Dinan and the country of Saint-Malo and where individuals and companies can help and support this superb local project.
What message would you like to send to individuals and businesses regarding their role in protecting biodiversity?
Biodiversity is everywhere and it is thanks to it that we are happy or healthy.
I invite everyone to take an interest in what surrounds us, to (re)become curious, to wonder about the species of trees on your path, about the bird that sings in the morning... all this leads us to better know, consider and preserve what makes us live.
